Behind every great athlete there is an even greater coach. There isn’t a top athlete who did not need a mentor to help them reach the top of their profession.

If you think about it, your business is similar to that of an elite athlete. You may have the determination, the expertise, and the vision, but there are times when you need professional guidance to ensure you stay on the right path, and how to best utilize your talents and work on your shortcomings to reach your goals. An executive coach can be that person.)

No matter where you are on your career path–from enthusiastic emerging manager to an experienced senior executive to an entrepreneur, there will be times when you can benefit from some professional coaching.

Though mentoring is valuable at all levels, executive coaching is a bit different. Coaches are generally found outside of the executive’s network of contacts and peers. They evaluate the executive and may utilize 360 leadership assessments to incorporate other perspectives.

1How do you work?

I believe strongly in building relationships and earning the trust of the people I work with. Before we begin working together we will meet for a free consultation to talk about why you are considering hiring an Executive coach. At the same time, you will have an opportunity to learn more about me and my coaching style. The session will help you determine if I am a good fit to help you reach your personal and business goals.

2How do you price your services?

You will find a broad range of fees from one coach to another. Fees depend greatly on a coach’s experience, background, and training. Usually coaches with more experience and training charge more than beginning coaches. However, the range is typically $80 to $250 per hour. Leadership and executive coaches may charge substantially more, while new coaches, or coaches who are still in training, may charge less. During our initial conversation I can provide more insight into my fees.

3What is Executive Leadership Coaching and how does the process work?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF), which I am a member of, defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Executive Leadership Coaching is an individualized process that enhances a leader’s capacity to achieve short- and long-term goals that may include building work-life integration, increasing work performance, productivity and communication skills. Coaching drives sense of ownership and helps the Coachee be self-accountable for greater performance. Coaching is personalized and normally conducted one-on-one for a defined period and with a specific purpose in mind. Coaching is about moving the coachee (person being coached) from a current place or situation to a new place or situation. The coachee owns the process and becomes self accountable for greater performance. It is quickly becoming one of the top tools that today’s leaders, executives and entrepreneurs use to run successful organizations and lead fulfilling lives.

4How is coaching different from consulting or therapy?

A consultant is hired to specifically tell the client how to do something. They are an expert who shares their knowledge. A coach asks open ended questions and holds the client capable to find answers for themselves. A coach does not diagnose or treat like a therapist does. Therapists dive into past wounds or work with clients on “issues.” Coaches do not do this.

5Do I need to choose a coach who lives close to me?

Absolutely not! Most coaches will tell you they do most of their coaching by phone or the internet. The single most important thing is to find a coach who is a good fit for you and can help you reach your goals. This might be someone who lives in your city or someone who lives across the country.

6What professional body do you belong to?

I am a Certified Leadership Coach and belong to the International Coaching Federation (ICF). ICF was founded in 1995 and is a leading global organization advocating high standards of professional coaching and code of ethics. All the members are well-trained qualified coaches. In 2017, ICF had recorded almost 30,000 members in 138 countries; by far the largest non-profit organisation of professional coaching in the world.

7How is ongoing coaching structured?

Sessions usually last one hour and take place two times per month but can vary depending on your needs and schedule. Because coaching is about making sustainable changes, many coaches ask for a six to nine-month commitment from new clients. Following the initial coaching agreement, many clients choose to continue the coaching relationship.

About Judi

Judi shares with her clients over 25 years of management experience in both the public, private and not for profit sector. She is an accomplished Leadership Coach, Facilitator and Communication professional who works effectively with Board of Governors, organizational leaders and frontline staff.

Judi grew up in the Bay of Quinte region in a family of hockey players, including her uncles Bobby and Dennis Hull. Watching her uncles play on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights helped fuel Judi's own fire for the game. She went on to play university hockey where she first learned about the transferable skills from sports to the business world.

Judi is a graduate of York University with a degree in Communications and Sociology. She also holds a certificate in Leadership Coaching and is a member of the International Coach Federation which sets the standards of coaching that her practice adheres to.

Missing her roots, (let’s be honest, she was missing her 6-month old niece, now 26!) and following a five-year tenure in Marketing and Corporate Training with Canada’s iconic card company-Hallmark Cards, Judi returned to Belleville. Much to her delight four more nieces followed.
